A Fork in the Road: Concluding the Revolt

Last week, we looked at Siding with the Rebels.

Even if the players lost, that doesn’t mean that they have to be dead and needing a resurrection.  It just means that their side is the losing side in the conflict.  So, in this case, if the players lose their encounter, that’s okay.  The Duke’s men and the Rebellion have no interest in spilling further blood.  The characters would be arrested and questioned in either case.

So, if the players sided with the Duchy and lost the encounter, read the Rebel victory conclusion.  The same vice versa.

Conclusion (Rebel victory):

“With the Duke’s line of succession in jeopardy, he has no choice but to negotiate with Citizen Strauss and the other surviving members of the rebel leadership. The royals who abused some of the locals unjustly are arrested and a council of local commoners is set up to provide a means of further justice in future incidents against the commoners.”

Conclusion (Duchy victory):

“With order restored in Duke Regibald Darimus’s territories, you are each given a sizeable bounty for your efforts. As you leave the keep, many of the commoners eye you suspiciously. Some of the more bold commoners sneer at you as you go by, you have made an enemy of the poor and workers in this territory.”

 Using the other Encounter:

If you want to squeeze every bit that you can out of stats, descriptions, and locations, it can be done.  Be creative!

If you still need to use the Siding with the Duchy encounter, you can instead use such an encounter as a way for the rebels to confront and arrest some members of the revolt that were less than savory characters.  Or, if the players are Evil style, maybe they want to take control of the rebellion for themselves.  This might be a really fun option.

If you still need to use the Siding with the Rebels encounter, you could use the encounter as one where the players are defending the Duke’s family after his capture.  The attackers could be men of the nobles that have become turncoats and work with the rebels now.

Next:  Well, comment below.  We can take this wherever you want!  This mini-adventure could be expanded to a campaign, or start a trend of other such articles.  Chime in!
