Goblins are ravenous and animalistic fiends who typically settle in crude villages with a population between 30 and 50 adults. They need to eat their body weight–usually 60 to 100 lbs.– in food each day, and spend much of their time hunting game and gathering food. Goblin tribes near New Morvena, when emboldened, have been known to  raid cattle pens and farms. For this reason, farms outside the protective walls of New Morvena are rare. More typically, goblins are encountered hunting game such as boars and deer in the Stag Woods and Blue Forest. Folklore holds that these fiends enjoy the taste of human flesh, and when children disappear, goblins are frequently blamed.

Although their intelligence level is generally very low and their recipes are odious by human standards, goblins consider themselves great culinary artists. Goblin cooks are highly esteemed, and the best cook often assumes a special position within the village, and finds himself burdened with many food “gifts”–ingredients with which he is expected to make a meal. According to custom, the goblins that have gathered the ingredients are entitled to this meal, although the cook’s position of privilege within goblin society allows him to join any feast that he fixes for any group. Because of this, cooks are often obese. They rarely venture out of the village, because they are almost always occupied with some stage of a big meal.

Goblin society is a tenuous and rude affair. Villages are made from the most basic materials or none at all; some are simply burnt clearings in the woods where goblins eat and sleep. Yet even a simple burnt clearing has a huge stone-encircled fire pit as its central point, as roasting and consuming food is the focus of goblin village life. Marriage is non-existent and goblins mate with whomever they please, although most are more interested in eating. Goblin metabolism is prodigious and they leave droppings wherever they go. For this reason, attempts to Track goblins are made at +2.
